VALATIE — The Ichabod Crane Riders boy’s varsity basketball team is doing what it can to make going to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the KSA basketball tournament at Disney World a reality.
This past July the school board granted permission for the team to take the trip on Dec. 28. To make this happen, the team must raise $23,500. The team is tentatively scheduled to play teams from Canada, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
Fundraisers have been held every weekend since July to raise money. They have sold raffle tickets and held coin drops, had adult mixer beer and wine tastings along with a silent auction held at Winding Brook on Oct. 24, and held a Halloween-themed 5K race they dubbed Trick or Trot, as well as a Creepy Crawler Fun Run with an obstacle course for children under 12 years old on Halloween.
“We wanted to try to do events that the school hasn’t done before,” said Will Ferguson, head coach of the Ichabod Crane varsity basketball team.
