On a breezy, sunny afternoon last Saturday, in the backyard of Laura Miller’s historic home, the Claverack Democratic Committee kicked off the 2017 campaign for the upcoming Town Board elections. This was the first “Meet and Greet” event before voters go to the polls on November 7.

Over 50 people came to the event to hear the 4 candidates: Laura Miller for Town Supervisor; Stephen King for Town Board member; Dave Baylen for Town Board member and Joanna Tipple for Town Clerk. There was much cheering and applause as the candidates each spoke about who they are, why they are uniquely qualified for the offices they will hold when elected, and their love for the Claverack community. All of the candidates are already engaged in work and volunteer activities serving Claverack residents and the surrounding communities. They laid out their vision for protecting Claverack’s interests and integrity in the future, while promoting small businesses, farming and tourism, which are the proven drivers of our local economy. All 4 of the candidates for the Claverack Town Board will appear on the November 7th ballot on both the Democratic Line and the Claverack Party Line.

Also at the event were the Democratic candidates Peter Volkmann, who is running for County Sheriff, and Dr, Andrea Coleman, who is running for County Coroner. Dr. Coleman is also a resident of Claverack. Several more “Meet and Greet” events are already planned. Please contact Maureen O’Mara at msmomara@yahoo.com for dates and locations.

Everyone at the event was encouraged to get involved in this very important election. Our candidates have a vision for the town and are willing to work with others to make Claverack the best it can be. Contact Diane Boice-Yorck at DBYorck@yahoo.com to join our enthusiastic group of volunteers. Contributions to the campaign can be mailed to The Claverack Democratic Committee, PO Box 514, Claverack, NY 12513 or online at our website claverackdemocrats.org.
