The Hudson Valley Academy of the Performing Arts will present its seventh annual production of The Nutcracker on Saturday, December 9th. Two performances, one at 2 pm and one at 6 pm, will take place at the Taconic Hills Performing Arts Center, located within the Taconic Hills Central School District campus at 73 County Route 11A, Craryville, NY.

This classic holiday ballet, set to the full score of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, will feature performances by Academy dance students hailing from towns across Columbia and Greene Counties, including Catskill, Hillsdale, Chatham, Copake, Coxsackie, Ghent, Austerlitz and Hudson, among others.

Professional guest performers Nancy Richer and Doug Baum will dance the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. Ms. Richer completed her dance studies at the San Francisco Ballet School and went on to perform with The Los Angeles Ballet, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet at The Kennedy Center, and the Intermezzo Dance Company, directed by American Ballet Theater soloist Craig Salstein. Recently, she has worked with Twyla Tharp on the creation of two new works and has danced with The Royal Danish Ballet in the premiere of Silja Schandorff’s and Nikolaj Hubbe’s Swan Lake in Copenhagen, Denmark. Mr. Baum graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts and received his BFA from Fordham in collaboration with The Ailey School, where he apprenticed with Aily II for two years. Since then, he has toured internationally for two years with Rasta Thomas Bad Boys of Dance Compagnie Flak and Les Ballets Jazz, and has completed three seasons with Zhukov Dance Theater in addition to many guest performances. He joined Complexions Contemporary Ballet in 2014.

Tickets for The Nutcracker are $15 for adults, $5 for children, and may be purchased at hvapa.com or at the door.
