Anyone who wasn’t shopping and/or eating at Basilica Farm & Flea in Hudson yesterday, must have been celebrating the reopening of the reimagined Ancram Opera House with new directors Jeff Mousseau and Paul Ricciardi. It was literally (not much) standing room only.

The former 1927 Ancram Grange, renamed Ancram Opera House in 1972, begins another era under the aegis of two theater guys who plan to live above the store.

They’re both actor/director/teachers and have big plans for the small space, perfect, in my view, for contemporary theater—not just live, but in your face and practically in your lap.

Which is another way of saying …

“Inspired by the aspirations of the grange movement, the Ancram Opera House envisions meaningful encounters through the performing arts that forge connection and community. We believe performances—conceived, created and experienced in our small, intimate space—offer the possibility for real exchange, instill a sense of place, and contribute to healthier and happier lives. Our hall fosters an audience’s immersion in a performance to make it complete and the potential for personal growth that the arts provide. We also look to Ancram’s pastoral character to nurture fervent artistic creation.”

The shows will go on in June.
