Here is the press release announcing Jake Ashby’s candidacy for New York State Assembly: Petitions Filed for Jake Ashby to Seek 107th Assembly District Seat in April 24 Special Election
Jacob Ashby, a military veteran, college instructor and a member of the Rensselaer County Legislature, has been nominated to run for New York State Assembly in the 107th District.
A special election has been called for the 107th Assembly District seat, formerly held by current Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin, for April 24.
Recognizing his leadership skills, Ashby was asked by members of his county political organization and fellow legislators to consider seeking the Assembly seat. Nominations were filed for Ashby to run on the Republican, Conservative, Independence and Reform lines for the special election.
Ashby is a former Army Captain from Castleton who served two tours of combat duty, and today works as an occupational therapist and college instructor.
He was elected to the County Legislature in District 4, which includes the towns of Schodack, Sand Lake and Nassau. He won election last fall, and included endorsements from a number of community figures, along with former Congressman Chris Gibson.
“Jake Ashby has an outstanding record of serving our country during two tours of duty, and contributing to the community as a college instructor and occupational therapist. His experience and record of service are why many of us encouraged Jake to seek the Assembly office,” said Vice Chair of the Legislature for Finance Bob Loveridge.
“Jake Ashby has excellent leadership skills, knows the issues facing upstate and will be a great representative for our district in the State Assembly,” added Columbia County Clerk Holly Tanner.
The Ashby family has a proud record of involvement in public service in southern Rensselaer County. A field on Brookview Road that is part of the East Greenbush-Castleton Little League is named Ashby Field, in recognition of a donation of land by the family. The family continues to be involved in numerous civic and community organizations.
Jake earned his MBA-H from Union Graduate College in Schenectady. He is a local entrepreneur, starting his own occupational therapy practice in 2014. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in education from Creighton University. He is a Prior Castleton VFW Post Commander.
He and his wife Kristy are parents of a son and a daughter who are each in elementary school in Castleton. The family resides in the Village of Castleton.
