Caleb Teicher & Co To Headline Opening of PS21’s New State-of-the-Art Black Box Theater
PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century will open the doors to its new state-of-the-art black box theater Saturday, April 14 at 8:00 pm with a celebration and dance performance. Caleb Teicher & Co will headline the event on Saturday night, and will perform again Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 pm. PS21 is located at 2980 Route 66 in the village of Chatham.
The dance concert features Caleb Teicher and Nic Gareiss, two of America’s most elegant interpreters of traditional American dance forms, including tap, clogging, flatfooting, Irish step, and contemporary hybrids. This is a return visit for Teicher, who charmed audiences during the 2017 Chatham Dance Festival.
“We are excited to welcome Caleb Teicher back to PS21 and to feature him at the opening of our new building,” said PS21 Board President Judy Grunberg. “Over the past 12 years, PS21 has earned a reputation for presenting dynamic programs of contemporary dance, classical and roots music, and live theater in a seasonal tent. Our new facility, which has taken five years to complete, is an extraordinary leap from tent to a state-of-the-art professional theater.”
The Boston Herald called Nic Gareiss “the most inventive and expressive step dancer on the scene… call[ing] forth visions of Fred Astaire.” ArtsAmerica declared that “with his calm and collected cool, Caleb Teicher is ‘suave with a groove’ incarnate.”
Tickets for Opening Night of the Black Box on Saturday, April 14 are $45 general admission and $40 for PS21 members. Tickets for the Sunday matinee are $25 general admission and $20 for PS21 members. They can be purchased at http://www.ps21chatham.org, by calling 1-800-838-3006, or at the door until the show sells out. The new theater, which replaces the tent that served as the main venue for twelve years, has an elegant, flexible design and includes state of the art sound and lighting. The black box is a flexible 40’x60’ performance space that is enclosed in the winter and seats up to 99. In warmer months, the east wall slides open and the black box theater transforms into the stage for the 300-seat open-air pavilion theater.
PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century is a not-for-profit organization in Chatham, NY, dedicated to the performing arts and to serving a diverse community with concerts, programs and residencies by professional artists and ensembles, youth and children’s programming and cultural education opportunities for all ages.
