Berkshire poets Patty Crane and David Giannini read from their new poetry books at the Chatham Bookstore on Saturday, November 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. A conversation with Thomas Chulak from the bookstore and Q & A follow the reading. Refreshments will be served.
Patty Crane’s award-winning poetry has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. Her newest book, “Bell I Wake To,” won the 2018 Zone 3 Press First Book Award in Poetry.
Other honors include a MacDowell fellowships, Stanford Calderwood Prize, and “Atlanta Review” International Prize.
Crane’s translations of Swedish poet and Nobel laureate Tomas Tranströmer have appeared in several publications, such as “American Poetry Review” and The New York Times and are collected in “Bright Scythe” (Sarabande Books, 2015). She has an MFA in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She lives in Windsor, MA, and serves as president of the nonprofit Friends of Windsor.
David Giannini will read from his three current books: “In a Moment We May Be Strangely Blended,” “Mayhap,” and his chapbook, a travel journal in Italy, “The Rainbow Prepares the Rain.” His work appears in national and international literary magazines and anthologies, including “New Hungers for Old: One-Hundred Years of Italian-American Poetry.” He has received several awards for his poetry and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2015.
Giannini was the Lead Rehabilitation Counselor for Compass Center, which he co-founded as the first rehabilitation clubhouse for severely and chronically mentally ill adults in the northwest corner of Connecticut. He is the founder and host of the reading series, Writers Read, at the Lee Library in Lee, MA, and has been active at The Becket Arts Center. He lives in Becket, MA.
