Mark your calendars. The three large-scale solar projects proposed for Claverack are on the agenda for a special coordinated Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing on TUESDAY, September 29, 2020 at 7:00 PM at the A. B. Shaw Fire House. You can attend in person or via Zoom.
Full details on the Claverack Creek and Catskill View projects on Humane Society Road and the Borrego Solar Project on Stottville Road are available on the town website and at the link below.
While renewable energy is essential for combating climate change and ending our dependence on fossil fuels, installing large-scale solar projects in residential areas, productive farmland, or open meadows is not a beneficial way to do it. Why not use already compromised industrial areas, highway medians, and/or the parking lots of empty strip malls instead?
If you are concerned about these solar projects that will consume nearly 100 acres of open land, or others that will surely be proposed around Claverack and Columbia County, or are worried about the possible adverse health effects they might bring, or the disappearing open space, or the loss of habitat for songbirds and other wildlife, or have other misgivings, please take a look at the project plans at the links below and speak out.
You can email your comments prior to the public hearing. To speak at the public hearing in person or via zoom, you must register ahead of time.
