Ancram Opera House announces the in-person return of the storytelling series, REAL PEOPLE REAL STORIES on August 7, 2021 at 7pm. This summer’s presentation features authentic personal narratives told by local residents for a LIVE audience at The Hilltop Barn at Roe-Jan Park, 9140 NY-22, Hillsdale, NY 12529.

REAL PEOPLE REAL STORIES has been a signature bi-annual event of the theatre since its opening in 2016. AOH’s Co-Director Paul Ricciardi curates and leads the program, which begins with workshops designed to help individuals cultivate the tools needed to share their exceptional narratives of everyday life in an unscripted format for an audience. Ricciardi, who is also an Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at the City University of New York – Kingsborough Community College, has conducted storytelling workshops at AOH as well as local libraries, community centers and schools across the region, Including an ongoing residency at Taconic HIils School. To date, over three dozen local storytellers have participated in the series.

The performance will be highlighting the stories of four area residents (pictured above, clockwise from upper left):

Samantha Klein is a bookworm who lives in Housatonic, MA with her partner, daughter, dog, and a few other critters. Klein’s story is about life lessons garnered from school bus drivers.

Ron Bixby, the owner of Little Apple Cidery in Hillsdale, NY, will be sharing how he survived WWII without having been in it.

Mark Senak who resides in Copake, NY, tells a story about his experience discovering that sometimes nature has a way of taking something we already know on an intellectual level and making the point stick on an emotional one.

Joe Gosler grew up in the Netherlands during WWII , but now he and his wife divide their time between NYC and Ancramdale, NY. Gosler will share his experience of the impact of war on a toddler, hidden during WWII in the Netherlands.

The August 7 edition of REAL PEOPLE REAL STORIES is a part of AOH AFIELD— a summer season of LIVE, in-person events at outdoor locations across the area. Ancram Opera House in southern Columbia County is an intimate showcase for fresh, contemporary work by visionary theater and musical artists where audiences can connect with performers in immersive, immediate ways.
