Art School of Columbia County Executive Director

Join us for upcoming art classes to explore art this fall and expand your creative horizons by exploring new media and exciting techniques.

Session III of the Art School of Columbia County’s new class series “Art for Everyone” is still open for registration. The class runs Thursday, October 26 and November 2, from 6-9 pm. “Art for Everyone” is taught by ASCC faculty member Sayzie Carr and is a welcoming introduction to begin your explorations in art. All supplies provided for a materials fee ($20 for Session III). Students will begin exploring book-making and mixed media (you do not have to have taken Session I or II to join us). The class is open to ages 15 and up.

On Saturday, October 28 join us for “Gesture Drawing” from 9 am-12 pm, with ASCC Faculty Member Maj Kalfus. You will learn how to capture motion, movement, and gesture from a live model moving through poses, and learn techniques for capturing a full range of motion, balance, and energy in the human figure.

Afternoon light in autumn is breathtaking; explore and observe the dramatic shift in autumnal light in “Light Studies: Oil or Acrylic” with ASCC Faculty Member Eileen Murphy on Saturday, October 28 from 2-5 pm.

Students may register online via ASCC’s website, and scholarships are available. In its fifth year of offering high-quality art classes and programs to the community, ASCC, a non-profit organization with a vision of “imagining art for everyone” presents a wide range of hands-on fine art classes featuring encouraging instructors and one-on-one attention. Full class descriptions, plus information about ASCC’s scholarship program which funds up to 90% of class tuition, are on the school’s website.

Classes are held at the Old Schoolhouse, 1198 Route 21c in Harlemville, at the intersection of Harlemville Road and Route 21C. Next to the Hawthorne Valley Farm Store, the building is centrally located within Columbia County, a ten minute drive from Chatham, and one mile from the Taconic Parkway, at the Route 21c exit. To register for classes online, go to artschoolofcolumbiacounty.org.
