HUDSON — The Columbia County Board of Supervisors appointed former state trooper Carmen Martino, of Ghent, as coroner until the November election.

The board also unanimously approved Columbia-Greene Community College’s $17.1 million 2018-19 operating budget at its meeting after a public hearing Wednesday night.

The county held a special Public Safety Committee meeting Wednesday to discuss the options for coroner and passed a resolution appointing Martino, a Republican, to fill the position temporarily in a 6-3 vote.

One of three positions became vacant after Dr. Andrea “Cricket” Coleman, who was elected in November 2017, stepped down in July.
