From July 21st through the 23rd, a city-wide festival of art, education, and action will unfold in Hudson, N.Y. Rally in the Valley represents a new approach to community outreach, with inclusive programming designed to engage and inspire. Founded by members of the thriving local arts scene, the festival aims to rally public support while raising funds for Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood. By bringing people together in such a public way, the rally will send a strong political message, and build lasting community relationships.
The weekend will revolve around “Act 1,” an art show featuring postcard sized works, on Saturday night at Hudson Hall (formerly the Hudson Opera House). Organized by Kristen Dodge of SEPTEMBER and Dawn Breeze of Instar Lodge, the show will feature works by emerging and established artists. Immediately following the show will be HEAVY FLOW, an inclusive dance party featuring a lineup of female-identifying DJs including Jennifer Haley, DJ Shanny, SVB, and more. Other weekend events include a teen-led sex-ed workshop with Isa Coffey of Wise Bodies, a hands-on textile project by artist/activist Chi Nguyen at Drop Forge and Tool, a workshop on consent with the Planned Parenthood Youth Health Promoters, and pelvic floor yoga at Rivertown Lodge, to name a few. Attendees can opt for single-event tickets or all- inclusive passes, both affordably priced. With program venues and sponsors peppered throughout the historic, walkable city—Rally in the Valley will offer out-of-towners and locals alike an opportunity to support UHPP while exploring Hudson.
Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood
UHPP serves a wide region of upstate New York including rural and urban communities in Albany, Columbia, Green and Rensselaer Counties. Since 1984, the Hudson Health Center has been an invaluable community safety net. The center serves more than 500 patients each year, many of whom claim it as their sole healthcare source. As the only provider of abortion services in Columbia and Greene Counties, and well into the Berkshires, UHPP is vital to the region. In addition, UHPP is proud to offer specialized Trans Health services in Albany, Troy and Hudson. Recent efforts to defund Planned Parenthood by removing Medicaid reimbursement for preventive services, like pap smears and cancer screenings, put local lives at risk. In short, the stakes are higher than ever. By rallying around UHPP in a show of unity, the City of Hudson will help ensure that their local Planned Parenthood can continue to serve them for generations to come.
