Columbia County Historical Society
WHEREAS the Columbia County Historical Society was founded as The Daughters of Columbia County in 1916 and Celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2016; and
WHEREAS the Columbia County Historical Society’s diverse collection is a vital community resource in efforts to learn, preserve and reflect on Columbia County’s rich and colorful history; and
WHEREAS the Columbia County Historical Society includes a research library with important and unique genealogical materials, maps, photographs, other archival materials relating to Columbia County’s heritage; and
WHEREAS CCHS also publishes an award-winning scholarly magazine, produces a popular lecture series, and maintains three historic properties: the 1737 Luykas Van Alen House, 1850 Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse, and 1819 Vanderpoel House of History; and
WHEREAS the Columbia County Historical Society approved the creation of a House of History in 1921, which was restored and opened to the public in 1936; it has since served as the center of the society’s programs; and
THEREFORE, we recognize, congratulate and thank you for your 100 years as a vital resource and community treasure in Columbia County.
