Martin Van Buren National Historic Site and the Rhode Island School of Design invite you to an opening celebration of the Lindenwald Mulberry Exhibit sponsored by the Friends of Lindenwald on June 27, 2015 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. The reception will be held at Lindenwald, Route 9H in Kinderhook.
The Witness Tree Project is an initiative of the National Park Service and the Rhode Island School of Design. Students in a joint history seminar and furniture studio study the history a tree has “witnessed” in order to create meaningful objects from the tree’s wood. This year the project used wood from Van Buren’s mulberry tree, which stood for 150 years before falling in the winter of 2011. The work will be displayed within Lindenwald – itself the witness to so much history – deepening the project’s articulation between history and design.
Join us on Saturday August 22nd at 2:00pm at Omi International Art Center in Ghent, NY, for the exhibitions concluding lecture by Dale Broholm, Senior Design Critic from RISD.
Special thanks to Omi for hosting the exhibit lecture in August and to the Columbia County Council on the Arts for publicizing the exhibit. We’re grateful to the Friends of Lindenwald, Tierra Farm, and Harvest Spirits for their support for the opening reception.
