The Tax-Aide Program is a free tax preparation service for all members of our community. In Columbia County, we have sites in Philmont, Hudson and Valatie.
The sites are opened one or two days a week during February through April 15th. Volunteers will receive training in December.
There are many opportunities available for our volunteers with different skill sets.
TAX PREPARERS: work directly with the tax payer to complete their tax return.
CLIENT FACILITATORS: welcome taxpayers and help organize paperwork. Minimal tax knowledge required.
TECHNOLOGY COORDINATORS: manage computer equipment.
LOCAL COORDINATORS: manage the tax preparation site, volunteers and schedules.
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATORS: help to recruit new volunteers.
To become a volunteer you will need to register for the Tax-Aide Program. You can register at http://nytaxaide.org/. In the upper right of the window click on “Volunteer with AARP Tax-Aide” link and follow the instructions.
