WASHINGTON — Republican Kyle Van De Water called U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado, D-Rhinebeck, to congratulate him on a second term Thursday morning, after the vote totals showed the congressman ahead by over 30,000 votes.

Despite his loss, it’s not the end of the road for Van De Water: the first time political candidate said he looks forward to a “rematch in 2022.”

“While it is close, it has become clear that when all of the legal votes are counted we will come up just a bit short,” Van De Water said in a written statement Thursday.
